Mzumbe University (MU), the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invite interested and qualified candidates who have strong quantitative research skills and hold a graduate degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Sociology, Social Psychology or any other relevant social science discipline to apply for one of four PhD scholarships at Mzumbe University. These PhD positions are offered by the project “Climate-smart Futures in Rural Tanzania” (CliFT), which is funded by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The CliFT project embraces equal opportunities in the recruitment of PhD candidates. Female candidates are encouraged to apply and they will be given priority when applicants of both sexes
have the same qualifications. The PhD students will be enrolled both at MU and at UCPH and they are supposed to write and submit paper-based PhD theses.
In case of a positive assessment of the thesis and the defense, the students will be awarded Ph.D. certificates from both MU and UCPH. Each PhD student will have at least one supervisor of MU, at least one supervisor from UCPH, and potentially a supervisor from DTU. Each PhD student will visit Copenhagen (UCPH and DTU) three times with a total duration of around 12 months, e.g., to attend PhD-level courses, to receive intensive supervision from their supervisors at UCPH/DTU for developing research proposals, reviewing the state-of-the-art, preparing for fieldwork by developing data collection instruments, analyzing data, and writing and presenting papers from their dissertations.
